Faculty of Science: Departments of Computing Sciences & Information Technology Reach Out to Ghanata SHS

Under its proposed “VVU Adopt-A-SHS” program, the Department of Computing Sciences & Engineering has reached out to the first beneficiary school, Ghanata Senior High School, Dodowa. This innovative program is social corporate responsibility initiative of the School that links academic and enrichment programs and social services to support learning in high schools.

“The vision for the “Adopt-A-SHS” program is that every high student has access to services that support educational success.  The success of Adopt-A-SHS program thus hinges upon strong partnership and collaboration among high school administrations, school districts, governments, and donor support,” explained Mr. Joseph Abandoh-Sam, the Dean of the Faculty of Science. “To this end, the VVU and its partners are committed to creating and supporting a shared vision, common goals, and a clear communication structure.”

This maiden engagement with Ghanata SHS began in May, 2021 and is expected to end when the students are ready to write their WASSCE. Overall, till date, about 150 ICT students of Ghanata SHS have been equipped with practical skills and experience from using the computing resources at Valley View University. This resonates with the vision of the university to improve the quality of education in Ghana by training teachers in ICT, Business, Social Studies, Mathematics, and English education at the Basic and Secondary levels.

We extend special appreciation to Mr. Ebenezer Graham Acquah, the headmaster of Ghanata Senior High School, for his vision to provide the students the best education and skills to succeed in life and for his support of the novel “VVU Adopt-A-SHS” initiative; Mr. Matthew Kaku Ehwie, the Head of Information Communication Technology for his support to the students; the HoDs of  the Department of Computer Science, Mr. John Kingsley Arthur and Department of Information Technology, Mr. Prince Owusu Amoako for their innovation and support; and to the university administration for their support.
