Prof Peter Agyekum Boateng takes over as Acting VC of VVU

Prof Peter Agyekum Boateng has been inducted into office as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Valley View University.

Until his induction, Prof Peter Agyekum Boateng was the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University. Prof Agyekum Boateng was inducted into office by the Chairperson of the University Council, Pastor Dr. Thomas Techie Ocran. Pr. Ocran, who also doubles as the President of the Southern Ghana Union Conference, administered the oath of office.

This follows the appointment of the immediate-past Vice-Chancellor, Prof Daniel Bediako as  Associate Director of the Biblical Research Institute of the General Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Prior to the new appointment, Prof Bediako had served the first term as Vice-Chancellor and had begun a second five-year term.

Pastor Ocran expressed the appreciation of the University Council to Prof Bediako for the service rendered to the University and wished him well in his future endeavours.

In his farewell address, Prof Bediako expressed gratitude to God for His leading in the past and also for His new direction.´´Whatever God allows is perfect’’, he said.

Prof Bediako added that it had been a wonderful privilege for him and his family to serve. He thanked the University Council, Executive Council, faculty, and staff of the University for the opportunity given him.

Prof Bediako admitted that the past few years had not been easy and he called on those he might have offended in the course of his work to pardon him.

The outgoing VC outlined a number of achievements in the course of his tenure as Vice-Chancellor. These included sponsoring about 75 PhDs, infrastructural development on all campuses, fundraising, and expansions in the University Ventures.

Prof Bediako encouraged his successor to remain focused on the mission of leading the institution and not be distracted in any way. He also asked him to invest in technology to ensure the development of the institution. Prof Bediako finally called on the university community to accord the Acting VC the needed support.

Accepting the new position, Prof Peter Agyekum Boateng called on all for support to take Valley View to higher heights. ‘We are willing and ready to team up with you...... together we can achieve great things,’ Prof Agyekum-Boateng said.

The newly inducted Acting Vice-Chancellor joined Valley View University in 2006 as a lecturer. He is currently an Associate Professor of Business Administration with a specialization in Strategic Management. Prof Agyekum Boateng has previously served as Rector for the Techiman Campus, Dean of the Graduate School, and Hall Dean.

The chair of the University Council revealed that the University Council had voted to put in place a Search Committee for a substantive Vice-Chancellor. He also revealed that the Council also voted that the Pro-VC should be inducted into office as the Acting VC.

In attendance at the induction ceremony were students, members of the university community and all key officers of the University.
