Michael Agyemang Adarkwah a 27 year old alumnus of Valley View University has graduated with a doctoral degree in Education Leadership and Management from Southwest University in China.
Mr. Adarkwah has subsequently been accepted as a post-doctoral researcher at Beijing Normal University (BNU), one of the top three universities in China.
Mr. Adarkwah obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, first-class honors, in 2017 from Valley View University (VVU). Mr. Adarkwah also passed his Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana (NMC) licensing examinations with distinction. He also graduated with distinction from the Master of Education in Educational Administration and Leadership programme in 2018 from Valley View University.
During his undergraduate studies at VVU, Michael served as the Chaplain of the Nursing Students Association (NURSA), Chaplain of the Student Representative Council (SRC), as well as the Vice President of Sons and Daughters’ Association, VVU Chapter.
Before travelling to further his studies in China, Mr. Adarkwah had worked at the HopeXchange Medical Centre as a rotational nurse for a year.
Mr. Adarkwah's commitment to achieving higher standards continued in China. During his doctoral studies in the country, he served as the Class President for the 2019 batch of International Students which comprised undergraduates, master’s and doctoral students. He was the Vice President of the National Union of Ghanaian Students (NUGS) in Chongqing, China.
While abroad, Mr. Adarkwah won the Excellent International Student Award of Southwest University for two consecutive years. He was subsequently awarded by the National Union of Ghanaian Students (NUGS), China Chapter as the best Ghanaian researcher. He also won the Golden Lenses Award of the Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture (AICCC) for his documentary on honey-making in China. During his PhD graduation, he was a proud recipient of the Excellent International Graduate of Southwest University Award.
Mr. Adarkwah is a prolific researcher for his age. He has published in top-tier journals. He has also been widely cited despite being an early-career academic.
Mr. Adarkwah is currently an Associate Editor of SN Social Sciences, a journal published by Springer and he serves on the editorial board of three journals; Journal of Educational Studies Multidisciplinary Approaches (JESMA), International Journal of Modern Education Studies (IJMES), and Social Education Research (SER).
Mr. Adarkwah attributes his succeses to his VVU roots. “The hallmark of Valley View University (VVU) ingrained in the simple words: Excellence, Integrity, and Service, is what shaped my values and inspired me to commit myself to holistic education”, he notes. “At VVU, I was trained to pursue excellence and not mediocrity, to be a man of principle and a man of determination, and a man who has the heart to serve diverse people”, he added.
According to Mr. Adarkwah, virtues such as perseverance and modesty which he acquired while at VVU have always been with him and have shaped the course of his life.
Mr. Adarkwah remarks, “the leadership roles VVU presented me boosted my confidence and served as a springboard for the leadership roles I assumed in the succeeding years. The biblical principles, moral virtues, and cultural values gifted to students at VVU aside their academic studies go a long way to build in them a noble character.”
Mr. Adarkwah’s favorite quote is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13.
As a University, we are extremely proud of Michael’s achievement and wish him well in his future endeavors.
