Strategic Planning Retreat for VVU Officers

Valley View University organized a 5-day strategic planning retreat dubbed Vision 2030 at the Boluwatife Conference room from January 2 – 6, 2023.

The meeting brought together officers from the West-Central African Division (WAD), some Council members, which included the two Union Presidents, as well as all officers of the University. The retreat was an opportunity for officers to come together and share ideas on how to achieve the vision 2030 agenda. The discussions centered around three main topics: education, leadership and service.

Participants looked at the core tenets of Adventist Educational Curriculum in relation to Valley View University and its Ventures.

The Chair of the University Council, Pr. Dr. Thomas T. Ocran, who also serves as President of the Southern Ghana Union Conference of SDA Church gave a welcome message at the start of the programme, focusing on the purpose for which participants are called to serve.

The Chancellor of Valley View University, Pr. Prof. Robert Osei Bonsu, who is also the President of WAD, shared with the house the purpose for which the University was established. It was clear that mission was at the heart of Valley View’s foundation story.

In his address, the Chancellor called for transparency and fairness in all of the University’s dealings and with one another. The Chancellor also emphasized on the need for faculty and staff to constantly remember the purpose of the University’s establishment whiles working towards fulfilling its mission.

The height of the programme was the presentation of the Vision 2030 agenda by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. William K. Koomson. His speech touched on how to actualize our core values in all spheres of the University especially the Ventures. Afterwards, participants were divided into sub-committees to discuss and formulate plans on how the various components of the vision can be achieved.

The Education Director of WAD, Pr. Prof. Juvenile Balisasa shared with the house a presentation on "The Philosophy of Adventist Education." On their part, Dr. Selorm Sessou and Elder Markus Musa Dangana, the Secretary and Treasurer of WAD respectively also delivered speeches centering on the theme "I will go."

The speakers discussed the importance of ensuring that all students have access to quality education and that teachers are given professional development so they can continue their commitment to teaching throughout their lifetime.

Each day was filled with adventure, laughter and learning. The sub-committees formed were given the platform to present to participants issues discussed at the end of each day's meeting.

Officers of the University left to their various destinations with a renewed mindset of achieving the University’s vision.
