‘ .. And The University Moved-In-By Faith’

The Valley View University Church at the Oyibi campus permanently opened for worship on Saturday, 29 April 2023, after almost two decades of breaking the ground for construction. The special occasion, themed “Move-in-by Faith, I Will Go”, was graced by many dignitaries, including Pastor (Prof.) Oyeleke Alabi Owolabi, Field Secretary of the West-Central Africa Division (WAD) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor (Prof.) Daniel Opoku Boateng, former Vice-President and Ministerial Secretary of the WAD, Pastor (Dr.) Chris Annan Nunoo, Executive Secretary of the Southern Ghana Union Conference of the SDA, and Elder Emmanuel Kwandahor, former Director of the Physical Plant of VVU – under whose tenure the project commenced.

Addressing the congregation, the visibly elated Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor William Koomson, expressed his excitement about the achievement of the University Administration thus far. He recounted the church project history, which commenced about 17 years ago under the leadership of Prof Seth Laryea, former President of the University.

In his address, Prof Koomson indicated that in as much as the church was yet to be completed, the building couldn't have gotten to this stage without the immense support of several people. He thanked everyone whose contribution had brought the building to this current phase. The VC added, “It is by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice to God, and by that same faith the Church has been opened though it is yet to be completed.” Prof. Koomson specified that as part of the vision of his administration, he was hopeful of completing the building by 2024. Nevertheless, until then, church services and all other programmes had officially been moved from the Seth Laryea Multi-purpose Centre to the newly built University Church premises.  Prof Koomson charged all and sundry to support and realize the vision.

Pastor Peter Osei Mensah, former Board Chair of the VVU Board of Trustees, urged the congregation in his sermon for the day to support the Vice-Chancellor to achieve the vision for the University because it was a church for the Lord. Pastor Osei Mensah lauded the leadership of the University for the bold step taken and pledged his support for the position taken by the Prof. Koomson-led administration.

Also present at the programme were faculty members, staff, students, former officers of the University, the SDA Church, and alumni of the University.

A fund-raising campaign on the day led by Pastor Prof. Oyeleke Alabi Owolabi yielded an amount of One Hundred Thousand Cedis (1,000,000.00). Overall, the University is targeting to raise Six Million Cedis to complete the Church to the glory of God.
