Valley View University marked an important occasion as it celebrated the official handing over and induction ceremony of its new Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Winfred Ofoe Larkotey.
The event, held at the Anton Mitterer Conference Hall of the University on Thursday, 28 December 2023, was attended by a distinguished gathering of guests, including some officers from the West-Central African Division of the Sevent-day Adventist Church, Council Members and Principal Officers of the University, Directors, Deans, Heads of Departments, and other members of the academic community.
The ceremony, presided over by the Chair of the University Council, Pastor Dr Thomas Techie Ocran, commenced with a prayer by the Dean of Spiritual Life and Development, who sought divine guidance for the proceedings. After briefing the gathering about what had occasioned the appointment of Prof. Larkotey as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar read out the profile of the inductee followed by an exploration of the role of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
The outgoing Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Ninon P. Amertil, delivered a heartfelt handing-over speech, expressing gratitude to the Administration, faculty, staff, and students for their support during her interim service. A symbolic handover ceremony marked the official transition, and the outgoing Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor conveyed a goodwill message, wishing success to the newly appointed Pro-Vice Chancellor. The Chairman of the University Council administered the oath of office and officially inducted Professor Larkotey into the position.
The ceremony continued with dedicatory prayers and goodwill messages from Deans, Directors, Heads of Department and the Kumasi Campus, where Prof. Winfred Larkotey was the Rector until his appointment. The newly appointed Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Larkotey, then delivered an acceptance speech, expressing profound honour and gratitude for the trust placed in him by the University Community.
Professor Larkotey outlined his vision for the academic division, emphasising academic excellence, innovation, inclusivity, and collaboration. He called for unity and collective efforts to propel the University to new heights of success and impact.
The event concluded with the Vice-Chancellor's inauguration of a seven-member Chapel Building Fundraising Committee.
